South Windsor MOMS Club's semi-annual children's conignment sale came from humble roots in a club member's driveway! The sale was created to raise money for a new boundless playground (now My Friend's Place at Nevers Road Park). At first, all items were donated as a 100% fundraiser. From the first two sales, more than $4,000 was raised to support the new playground, which was completed in 2007. By this time, the MOMS Club realized they had a really good idea on their hands.
The sale soon moved to South Windsor Fire Department Headquarters where it remained for many years. The idea was simple: provide a fun and easy way to "recycle" children's clothing and gear by finding them a new home. In the process, make a little money and raise some for South Windsor organizations that benefit children and families, too. Selling online can be scary and it's a shame to donate items children may have only barely used to a "big box" store when they instead could go to a local family.
From the fall of 2007 through 2009 the consignment sale raised more than $3,000 for South Windsor Parks and Recreation (including playground benches and schoalrships), $3,000 for the South Windsor Library Children's Department, $3,700 for the South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank, $4,000 for the South Windsor Police Department's Child Passenger Safety Seat Program, and nearly $6,000 to help bring the Safety Town summer program to South Windsor.
In 2010, the consignment sale raised a "wapping" $10,000 for the five elementary school PTOs.
2011 and 2012 brought more funds to the SW Fire Department's Children's Fire Prevention Program and SW Parks and Rec, and both libraries in town. More than $5,500 was donated to SW Youth and Family Services and $4,000 to the SW Food and Fuel Bank.
In 2013 for our fourteenth sale, the consignment sale moved to a larger home at Wapping Community Church in the heart of South Windsor. We blew away our previous records for total sales and number of presale shoppers for what was most definitely our best sale ever! More than $5,700 was raised for Wood Memorial Library. We also implemented an online barcode system and credit card processing which meant faster check-out lines and check turnaround time for our sellers.
In Spring 2016, for our 20th semi-annual sale, the consignment sale moved yet again to a larger home at Nomad's Adventure Quest in South Windsor. We smashed previous sale records and raised a total of $9,000 for various community organizations.
